As a boy I understood early on that a person must find a purpose to walk rather than a path. If we are lucky the journey is long and the paths are limitless, but the purpose is my inspiration to move forward.
After spending 4 years with the US Navy, I was ready to follow my passion while holding the keys to my future. The most valuable lesson I learned in my military experience was that in order to lead a teams, I must be able to follow the lead of an experienced person responsible for the ultimate outcome. Playing a supporting role is fundamental to team efforts in sometimes vague and elusive creative scenarios. Identifying roles early on and assigning tasks based on those roles not only helps with the communication strategy of the project but it also gives an individual purpose to succeed and deliver.
